Artwork - Beauty in the Broken

Acrylic on canvas 24 x 30"
'Beauty in the Broken'
This is my latest artwork, the piece is part of a series I am currently working on.
(I am hoping to exhibit the whole series in the future - will keep you posted)

This piece is about how what you see or the way someone presents themselves to the world may not truly reflect what they are feeling inside.
It reminds me of a quote I have seen posted around from time to time
'Be kind for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about'

This woman is trying to keep up appearances, but can no longer keeping up the facade, for a brief moment covers her face with her hands as her feelings threaten to overwhelm her, she can no longer repress them and show her pretty, happy face. The flowers in her hair, as well as the bright happy colours throughout the artwork are in contrast to her obvious despair.

Even though to the outside world she seems beautiful, inside she feels broken.

Here is a glimpse into my art making process:

Markets

Mathilda's Market carefully handpicks stall holders to bring you divine and original clothing, accessories, homewares and toys for the little ones... It's kids shopping heaven.

I am very excited to have been accepted to be a part of the upcoming Mathilda's Market when they come to Newcastle in March. I'm looking forward to be selling my artworks alongside many other talented designers/stall holders and hope you can make it along too. I can't wait!

My art - the process

Today I am having a little photography session - trying to work on improving my product photography.
Up until now I usually just list my prints in my Shop, EtsyMini Mohs or Madeit using a digital snapshot, but I know it is much more appealing to the customer to actually see what it could look like framed and in their own home, so I am working on adding props and trying to use natural lighting - which is proving difficult as my home apparently doesn't have much natural light : (
I will be slowly photographing and updating my sites to include these shots over the next few weeks.

My Art - The Process

I am excited have begun working on a set of 3 mermaids.
They will be available individually but I think they will look amazing hung three in a row, with white frames, in a little girls or even teen girls bedroom.
I am going to give each slightly different colouring, but all will be pastel, beachy-type colours. And I will give them all a little friend, this one has a cute little jellyfish, was thinking maybe a turtle in my next one and not sure about the third yet, any suggestions?
Will also have to come up with some mermaid-esque names when I list them in my shop! Hmmm..

Here is a peek at my original sketch...

And the final product...

Now to get working on the other two! Watch this space : )
